ProspectUS - New University Strategy

Seven groups of academic and administrative staff work on a new university strategy focusing on the research potential.  The results will be ready on 31st May 2019.

Led by the Vice-Rector for Finance and Development, Prof. Michał Daszykowski, the project focuses on six areas essential for our university to operate efficiently: staff, learning, education, infrastructure, cooperation with the environment, and visibility.

Nicole Stott at 3rd Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE

During the third edition of the Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE, which has taken place on 12th and 14th January 2019, we have hosted extraordinary guests – personas of the world of science. One of them was an American NASA astronaut, Nicole Stott.

Noblist Johannes Georg Bednorz at 3rd Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE

During the 3rd Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE we had a very special guest in Katowice – Johannes Georg Bednorz. Born May 16, 1950, J.G. Bednorz is German mineralogist and physicist and Nobel Laureate in the field of Physics.

For the discovery of the phenomenon of high-temperature superconductivity in ceramic materials, Bednorz has received a number of scientific prizes, most notably the esteemed Nobel Prize in the field of physics in 1987.

Success of 3rd Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE

The 3rd Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE, which has taken place from 10th to 12th January 2019, has ended last week and proven to be a huge success.

3rd Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE

The next, already third, edition of the Silesian Science Festival will be held between 12th and 14th January 2019. Encouraged by the success of the last edition, the organisers of the event decided to extend the formula of those parts of the programme which worked out really well, as well as to offer the audience  completely new elements.

Ambassador of Spain visits the University of Silesia

On Friday, 14th December 2018, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Poland – Francisco Javier Sanabria Valderrama – has visited the University of Silesia.

University of Silesia for Climate

The summit on climate change organized in Katowice from 2nd to 14th December 2018 is the most important global forum devoted to global climate policy. As part of this year's event, the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24) will take place along with the 14th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 14).

Delegation of the University of Silesia in Ukraine

On 15-17 November 2018 the representatives of the University of Silesia, Marta Barciak from the International Students Admissions Office and Natalia Moiseienko from the School of Polish Language and Culture, will take part in the Education Abroad educational fairs in Kiev.

University of Silesia has signed a double degree agreement with the Kazakh State Women’s Teacher Training University

Between 6th and 9th November 2018 the University of Silesia in Katowice is visited by representatives of the Kazakh State Women’s Teacher Training University in Almaty. The cooperation between the universities was initiated in 2015 and has, so far, covered short-term student and staff exchange. The aim of the visit was to sign a double degree agreement in the field of English philology and discuss practical aspects of the double degree programme.

Representatives of the University of Silesia in China

From 23rd to 27th October 2018 representatives of the University of Silesia in Katowice will participate in an educational mission in China.

Prahlad Kakkar visits the Faculty of Radio and Television

On 17-18 October 2018 Indian ad film director, Prahlad Kakkar, has visited the Krzysztof Kieślowski Faculty of Radio and Television of the University of Silesia in Katowice.

Cooperation agreement with Beijing University of Technology

This week, the delegation of Beijing University of Technology has visited the University of Silesia in Katowice. The reason for the meeting was to broaden the cooperation between universities by extending the current cooperation agreement, which was concluded in signing the framework agreement between the universities on October 17, 2018 in Katowice.

Awarding the honorary doctorate degree to Prof. John Maxwell Coetzee - ceremony stream

Professor John Maxwell Coetzee will receive the honorary doctorate degree at the University of Silesia in Katowice. The award ceremony will be held on Tuesday, 23rd October 2018 at 11.00 in Lecture Hall no. 8 at the Faculty of Law and Administration (11b Bankowa Street, Katowice, Poland).

Adaptation week for first-year students of the University of Silesia

Each year the university launches the Adaptation Week for foreign students in order to familiarize them with rules and specifics of studying in Poland. The Adaptation Week focusses on practical aspects of studying on the University of Silesia and transferring knowledge that would be useful for every student. 

University of Silesia at 30th Annual EAIE Conference and Exhibition

On 11th to 14th September 2018 representatives of the University of Silesia in Katowice participated in the 30th Annual EAIE Conference and Exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland. The EAIE is the largest international higher education event in Europe. This year the EAIE attracted over 5 thousand participants involved in the internationalisation of higher education – from academics through international cooperation specialists to national agencies and organisations engaged
in internationalisation.

Representatives of the University of Silesia visited India

University of Silesia marked its presence in India during the educational mission, which took place from 2nd to 8th September 2018. The mission included educational fairs and meetings at universities and educational institutions in 4 major Indian cities: New Delhi (2.09), Chennai (4.09), Bangalore (6.09) and Mumbai (8.09).

28th Summer School of Polish Language, Literature and Culture

On 1st August 2018, for the 28th time, the summer school of Polish language, literature and culture was opened in Cieszyn. Organized by the School of Polish Language and Culture of the University of Silesia, the courses have been running continuously for almost 30 years, and every year there is an increasing number of people interested in learning Polish, the beauty of Polish culture, the richness of literature and the history of Polish country.

International Mobility Week at US

The International Mobility Week, organised by the Department of International Relations within the Erasmus+ programme, finished last Friday. University of Silesia in Katowice hosted representatives of 16 foreign higher education institutions from Bulgaria, China, France, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, United Kingdom, Ukraine and Italy.

Architectural Award for Faculty of Radio and Television

On Tuesday, June 12, 2018, the laureate of the Architectural Award was announced in Warsaw. The Jury has chosen the new headquarters of the Faculty of Radio and Television of the University of Silesia as the best project of the 2017. The Award's Grand Prix was received by the project's authors - Grupa 5 Architekci, BAAS Arquitectura and Małeccy Biuro Projektowe.

Cooperation with the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada

On Tuesday, June 5, 2018, the University of Silesia has signed the cooperation agreement on student exchanges with the University of Alberta (Edmonton, Canada). The newly-signed document will expand the cooperation between the universities, which is ongoing since 1996.

Grand Prix of the Association of Polish Architects received by our Faculty

The building of the Faculty of Radio and Television of the University of Silesia received the Grand Prix of the Association of Polish Architects.

The jury appreciated the project by BAAS Arquitectura, Grupa 5 Architekci and Biuro Projektowe MAŁECCY for "a contribution to the revitalization of city space, sensitivity and creativity in the use of materials characteristic for the place - ceramics" and "for plastic delicacy that allows the architecture of different eras to coexist."

Cooperation with University of Buea, Cameroon

On Wednesday, 16th May 2018, the University of Silesia has entered into formal cooperation with the Cameroonian University of Buea.

Meet us on educational fairs in Kiev

Between 19th and 21st of April 2018 the University of Silesia representatives will participate in educational fairs “Education abroad” in Kiev, Ukraine. The fairs will be held in Ukrainian House, Kreschatyk street, 2.

Ambassador of Taiwan visiting US

On Monday, 26th March 2018, the University of Silesia in Katowice was visited by the Ambassador of Taiwan, Ven-Bin Shih.  The Ambassador was accompanied by his wife – Shu-Chiao Shih Chang, 1st Secretary Director Yeh-Shin Chu and Secretary Hsiu-Ya Liu, as well as Polish deputy – Jerzy Polaczek.

IROs Forum Meeting in Katowice

IROs Forum (International Relations Offices Forum) is a network of the international offices of leading Polish state universities. On 16th March 2018 over 40 experts from 14 member institutions met at the University of Silesia in Katowice to discuss the admission procedures for international students at higher education institutuions.

Visit of a delegation from the University of Dunaújváros

On 6 and 7 March 2018 the University of Silesia hosted a delegation from the University of Dunaújváros (Dunaújvárosi Egyet) - a Hungarian state higher education institution. The program of the visit included a meeting with representatives of the University authorities; our guests also visited the Faculty of Computer Science and Materials Science in Chorzów and Sosnowiec.

100 exchange students from 22 countries at US

About 100 students from 22 countries all around the globe will spend their part-time studies and apprenticeships at the University of Silesia in Katowice in the summer semester 2017/2018.
