International Mobility Week at University of Silesia in Katowice

The International Mobility Week, organised by the Department of International Relations within the Erasmus+ programme, was held between 10 and 14 June 2019. University of Silesia in Katowice hosted representatives of 18 foreign higher education institutions from Greece, Spain, Turkey, Denmark, Germany, Argentina, Russia, United Kingdom, China, Ukraine, Brazil and Kazakhstan.

Since the event is addressed mainly to administrative staff dealing with international relations at their home institutions, our guests included heads of international offices, international coordinators, study advisers, faculty coordinators and administrative clerks. There were also a few academics actively involved in internationalisation. What they all had in common was the need to improve professional qualifications and develop soft skills, particularly those which are useful in the international setting.

The International Mobility Week was officially opened by the Vice-Rector for Domestic and International Cooperation – dr hab. prof. UŚ Tomasz Pietrzykowski.
On the first day our guests presented their home universities and participated in a crash course in Polish, and in presentations about our University. The programme of the following days included workshops with the participation of staff from different units of the University (Department of International Relations, Career Centre and Centre of Chinese Language and Culture), a tour of the University campus and a visit to the Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library. On Thursday, 13 June, our guests attended a training on effective communication in multicultural environments. The staff week participants also visited the Faculty of Radio and Television, and the Faculty of Philology in Sosnowiec. The social programme offered a guided tour of Katowice and a trip to the Historic Silver Mine in Tarnowskie Góry.
