The summit on climate change organized in Katowice from 2nd to 14th December 2018 is the most important global forum devoted to global climate policy. As part of this year's event, the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24) will take place along with the 14th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 14). According to organizers’ estimations, over 26 thousand people will participate in the meetings, including heads of governments, representatives of states, ministers, as well as representatives of business sector, scientific circles and non-governmental organizations.
The global forum is accompanied by numerous events, organized among others on the campus of the University of Silesia.
From 29th November to 1st December 2018, the 14th youth climate summit - Conference of Youth took place at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Silesia. Participants discussed the key issues of climate policy on both the regional and global levels. In the summary session took part: chairwoman of the general assembly of the United Nations María Fernanda Espinosa, UNFCCC secretary Patricia Espinosa and secretary of state in the Ministry of the Environment Michał Kurtyka – acting president of COP24. On 30th November 2018, a conference "For the sake of a common home: a Christian on the roads of ecology" was held.

One of the events co-organized by the University of Silesia is „Advancing Law & Governance Contributions to Climate Action under the Paris Agreement” - symposium attended by the world-renowned representatives of science and international institutions acting for climate protection. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the necessity for synergy in building capacity and cooperation in the field of climate change research, exchange of knowledge, ideas and experience between specialists representing various areas of law and management. The conference will take place on 7th December 2018 at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia.
