On Friday, 14th December 2018, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Poland – Francisco Javier Sanabria Valderrama – has visited the University of Silesia.
The meeting with the Ambassador was hosted in the rectorate of the University of Silesia by the Rector – Prof. Andrzej Kowalczyk. The representatives of the University also present during the meeting were: Dr. Cecylia Tatoj from the Faculty of Philology and Joanna Laskowska, Head of the International Students Admissions Office of the University of Silesia. The main topics discussed during the meeting were issues related to international cooperation in the field of science and higher education.
The area of Spanish studies is growing rapidly at the University of Silesia. The University promotes Spanish culture through activities such as meetings and workshops for the bilingual secondary school classes of the region of Silesia, Spanish days and thematic events. The Spanish Day at the University of Silesia is planned for 15th March 2019. On this special occasion the Institute of Roman Studies will sign an agreement of cooperation with the Cervantes Institute, Spanish organization responsible for promoting and teaching Spanish language and culture.
Much of the credit for the above-mentioned actions belongs to Dr. Cecylia Tatoj of the Department of Iberian and Latin American Studies, current Vice-President of Polish Association of Hispanists. An Erasmus Coordinator at the University of Silesia since 2005, Dr. Cecylia Tatoj was the first of 200 students that participated in the first-ever Erasmus exchange in Poland, which had place in the academic year 1997/1998. She spent her exchange period in Grenada, Spain.
