More than 300 experts on the Polish language, culture and literature will meet in Katowice at the VI World Congress of Polonists. The meeting, which gathers teachers and researchers, theoreticians and practitioners, will be organized at the University of Silesia in Katowice on 22-26 June.
This international event is an occasion for exchanging knowledge and ideas, discussing the way that Polish literature is perceived around the globe and new trends in teaching Polish, as well as making a valuable contribution to the most recent research undertaken in the field of Polish Studies. The Congress covers a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:
- Scientific professionalism vs. ‘new’ humanities: the case of contemporary theory.
- The history or histories of literature? Comparative approaches to the history of Polish literature.
- Polish literature all over the world.
- Ethnolinguistics beyond borders.
- Regional and minority languages: political implications – codification – structural aspects.
- Polish Studies, comparative literature, transculturalism. Philology as the land of hope.
- Polish film, theatre and performance in transnational and international perspective.
- New areas of teaching Polish as a foreign language: from teaching multilingualism to intercultural communication.
Apart from the discussions centring on those topics, a significant part of the Congress will be devoted to various shades of teaching (foreign languages, but not only). A poster section will also take place, where e.g. the ways the departments of Polish Studies function abroad will be presented. Moreover, the Polish Studies Publications Night will be held, when magazines and books thematically connected with the discussed issues will be shown.
