The School of Polish Language and Culture
If you enjoy Poland and wish to learn the Polish language, if you are interested in combining your studies with fun – make your plans reality by joining one of the programs we offer at the School of Polish Language and Culture, which organizes, year round, courses of Polish as a Foreign Language for learners at different levels, both groups and individuals. An essential part of each Polish language, culture and literature course is the celebration of the most important Polish holidays. It is impossible to demonstrate the “spirit of Poland” without it, because of the close connection between phraseology, history, and culture. Both students and teachers of the School create one big family of people fascinated by Poland and the Polish language; because of this, they can celebrate together even the most family-oriented of holidays: Christmas. Representatives of many different nations sit at one big table and, after sharing the wafer (opłatek), they sample traditional Polish dishes, sing Christmas carols, and discuss the similarities and differences between Polish traditions and their own. Easter celebrations are joyful too. The symbolic character of this holiday inspires reflections of a philosophical and cultural nature. Painting Easter eggs provides an opportunity to express one's own creativity. According to an old Polish tradition, the end of November is the perfect time for telling fortunes to every bachelor and bachelorette. St. Andrew’s Day (Andrzejki) is the only opportunity during the year to find out who is going to get married and what the future will bring.
The School of Polish Language and Culture is a specialized unit of the University of Silesia which offers an assortment of courses helping to improve Polish Language skills and provide knowledge about Polish culture and the Polish system of study. The carefully prepared curriculum, classes conducted by the best qualified teachers, good conditions of learning as well as a family atmosphere make the School of Polish Language and Culture unique.
