The International Mobility Week, organised by the Department of International Relations within the Erasmus+ programme, finished last Friday. University of Silesia in Katowice hosted representatives of 16 foreign higher education institutions from Bulgaria, China, France, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, United Kingdom, Ukraine and Italy.
Our guests represented various departments and administrative units of their home universities, including: international relations offices, international education centres, secretariats, legal offices and others. What they all had in common was the need to improve professional qualifications and develop soft skills, particularly those which are useful in the international setting. Although the International Mobility Week is addressed mainly to administrative staff, this year the event was also attended by several professors.
The International Mobility Week was officially opened by the Vice-Rector for Domestic and International Cooperation – dr hab. prof. UŚ Tomasz Pietrzykowski. On the first day our guests presented their home universities and participated in a crash course in Polish, and in the presentations on the national and regional cooperation networks (IROs forum, SUN). They also took part in a tour of the University campus and visited the Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library.
The programme for the following days included trainings on successful communication with students and staff, and on how to work effectively and prevent burnout. Our guests also attended workshops with the participation of staff from different units of the University (Department of International Relations, Career Centre, Centre of Chinese Language and Culture, and University Media Centre) and a meeting dedicated to the activity of the Centre for Polar Studies. Moreover, they listened to a presentation concerning the activity of the Erasmus Student Network and met several international students who are studying at our University in the current academic year. Our guests also visited the Faculty of Radio and Television, and the Faculty of Law and Administration. Additionally, the programme included a trip to the Guido Mine and to the historic district of Katowice – Nikiszowiec.Detailed programme of the International Mobility Week is available at http://erasmus.us.edu.pl/programme-2018.
