The University has accepted the challenge and taken up a role in constructing the European Higher Education Area laid down in the fundamental principles of the Bologna Declaration of 19 June 1999. The implementation of the Bologna objectives at the University of Silesia contributes to the level of teaching and includes the following items:
Cycles of studies
The adoption of three main cycles of studies: undergraduate BSc/BA, graduate MSc/MA and doctoral studies PhD. The degree awarded after the first cycle is regarded in the European labour market as an appropriate level of qualification. The second cycle leads to a master degree as in many European countries. Access to the second cycle requires successful completion of the first cycle of studies, which last a minimum of three years.
ECTS
The establishment of a system of credits, the ECTS system, as a proper means of promoting the most widespread student mobility. Thanks to this system students can shape the programme of their studies. Students have to obtain 60 credit points to pass one academic year. Students can take the final examination on the condition that they have collected the required amount of points.
- 360 points are required to obtain an MA degree in the field of Theology, specialisation Pastoral Theology
- 300 points are required to obtain an MA or MSc degree in the remaining fields of studies
- 180 points are required to obtain a BA or BSc degree
Diploma Supplement
A system of easily readable and comparable degrees, also through the implementation of the Diploma Supplement, in order to promote the employability of European citizens and the international competitiveness of the European higher education system.
Quality Assurance
The promotion of European co-operation in the field of quality assurance. The University of Silesia offers 22 fields of Study accredited by the Government Commission of Accreditation for the quality of teaching.
Students’ mobility
Promotion of mobility by overcoming obstacles to the effective exercise of free movement paying particular attention to:
1. For students - access to study and training opportunities and related services
2. For teachers, researchers and administrative staff - recognition and valorisation of periods spent in a European context researching, teaching and training, without prejudicing their statutory rights
European dimensions
Promotion of the necessary European dimensions in higher education, particularly with regard to curricular development, inter-institutional co-operation, mobility of schemes and integrated programmes of study, training, and research.
